Grades 5 and 6
Math Maestro Jean-François has invited you to visit his zoo! But first, your students will have to find the path that takes them to the animals. How? By simplifying fractions! What a fun way to work on the concept of equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions. And to add to the fun, the students will also have to write the names of the animals, or draw them, in the enclosures on the map. You could even take the opportunity to talk to them about some of the animals and their characteristics. Whatever you decide, this activity is chock-a-block with possibilities!
Math Maestro Jean-François has also provided an answer key to go with the map of the zoo (where the animals are located) that you can print or project on the IWB. Stay tuned for other activities by our Math Maestro Jean-François!
