You’ve no doubt seen our announcements about our collections or the icon in your account’s toolbar. Maybe you’ve even taken a look, out of curiosity, without really knowing what to expect. Are you wondering how they can be useful? Just read on to find out how they can make your life easier!
Organize, plan and benefit
These three key words underpin the collections—an option that allows you to create lists of activities to send to your students whenever you want.
Organize: Group your favourite activities in one spot, classify them by concept or sequence them according to your teaching or a theme. The Collections offer you more flexibility than a simple list of favourites.
Plan: Prepare your collections so that they can serve as homework for the week or to review concepts recently covered in class. No more searching through the books each time—everything will already be ready to send!
PSST! Don’t forget that your collections are saved from year to year. So, you can easily reuse them or modify them for your new groups. Pretty nifty, eh?
Are you short on time or ideas for creating your collections? No problem! Benefit from the option to share collections with colleagues. They may have one that you could adapt for your group.
How Hugo and Sophie use the collections
Many teachers are already using the collections. Hugo and Sophie are a case in point. See in concrete terms how they use them.
Reviewing folders
“I’ve divided my teaching into 11 folders that cover the math program for my grade. In Netmath, I selected activities for each of these folders. Thanks to the collections, I simply grouped these activities by folder and use them to review material with my students. The students can easily find the activities they need to review what they’ve learned.”
- Hugo, Grade 9 teacher
Consolidating concepts learned during the month
“At the end of each month, my colleagues and I share collections with our students so that they can review what they learned the month before. Here’s an example of the collection shared in October 2021: numbers, representing, counting, comparing, decomposing, adding with carrying, subtracting without carrying 0-100, and +0, -0, +1, -1 strategies. [My] collections are created in relation to the concepts we’ve already worked on in class. Parents can help at home, because we encourage students to do a bit every night. It’s a simple and very useful tool for consolidating the concepts learned the month before.”
- Sophie, Grade 2 teacher
